Door Key Trim Ring Polishing

Door Key Trim Ring Polishing

I finally got around to sprucing up my car door key ring. They were originally painted black and had chipped over the years (more so on the drivers side). I had repainted them with limited satisfaction. I remember the last time at the track I spy'd Kim Crumb's car and noticed his were not painted, and assumed it was an option from the factory. After speaking with 928 International I found out it was not an option. So I set about doing it by hand. Here's what I did:

1. Tape the area with blue trim tape (House Paint Supply Store) or some other easily removable tape.

2. Sand with 330 grit sand paper - then 600, and finally 1200.

3. Purchase the polishing kit for your dremel / wizard tool. It comes with the cotton polishing attachment and the white cut polishing compound. Another 10 minutes and you'll be quite pleased with the results.

4. Follow up with metal polish which will keep the surface tarnish free.
