What you have found is the counter for your exhaust system's O2 sensor. If functioning properly, it also makes a light clicking noise ever so often as you drive. The PO of my car had unplugged his (probably because he didn't like the clicking noise). When it reaches 30,000 miles, you will get a 02 warning light in your dash array. Other people have manage to cram applifier for the sound systems into this spot also.
