Turn Signal does not Cancel

Turn Signal does not Cancel

If your turn signal doen not cancel automatically after making a left turn, it may be due to wear on a black plastic piece which is attached to the back of the steering wheel. It has a bevel on both of its contact edges. One side had worn flat so as not to have a bevel, and would not cancel. I just filed a similar bevel to the other side and it works great.

>My turn signal indicator won't cancel after a left turn, but works fine on
>right turns. as the steering wheel returns to center after a left turn, I
>can hear the "click" but the stalk does not release from its left turn
>position.

I had the exact same symptoms. Here's a "fix" that worked great on my car.

1. Remove steering wheel.

2. Notice the shallow groove that has been worn into the tang that protrudes from the back of the steering wheel by many years of rubbing.

3. Neatly wrap 2 turns of electrical tape around the tang. Trim off any excess.

4. Replace steering wheel.
